CHURCH COUNCIL MINUTES April 2008 President Dave Sime called the meeting to order. All members were present, as well as Pastor Greg. Mike Bute led with devotions on “Filling in the Gaps” and Acts 10. The secretary’s report was approved with an addition of Linda Wasmoen to the Youth Committee. Committee Reports: Treasurer’s Report: Mike Bute – March income was $17,096.48. The expenses for the month were $16,233.74. Last month, Council directed Lorraine to pay off a promissory note of $2,000 that had been requested back unexpectedly. This brought us close to our debt reduction goal for 2008; however some large bills are looming in April. Mike suggested we proceed with caution and to prioritize our finances. A few years ago, giving was shifted from the property to the general. We may need to think about giving some to the property as there are some things needing to be done in that area. Christian Ed: Carolyn Martinson – No meeting, however Carolyn reported on the Appreciation Supper that was held for the Sunday School volunteers. A great meal and fellowship was enjoyed by the many that attended. The committee is going over curriculum for next year. There is no Vacation Bible School in place as of now. Property and Grounds: Wayne Miland – The committee chair, Glen Mathiason and Pastor Greg did a walk through of the church on many items that need attention in the future. A meeting has been set and the committee will decide what needs to be prioritized and proceed from there. Many of the “needs” will try to be done by lay people of the congregation. Worship and Music: Linda Wasmoen and Carolyn Martinson – No meeting Stewardship: Dawn Armstrong –No meeting. Memorial and Gifts: Ruthann Gaard - No meeting. Evangelism: Neil Pierce and Karen Erickson – The bus trip to “The Thorn” went great. Forty nine people enjoyed the play immensely. They had $38.00 left that went into the general fund. Youth: Dave Sime and Wayne Jacobs – The committee is planning to have a food stand during Morin Lake Days. This will be at the Dane Shoot on Saturday and uptown during the Teen Dance. Lori Guenther will be in charge during the day and Linda Wasmoen and Pastor Greg at night. There will be a meeting on April 20 for the kids who are planning to attend the National Youth Gathering in 2009, and their parents, Some fundraising ideas being discussed are Papa Murphy’s discount cards and a Walk-A-Thon. Pastor Greg reported that Bibles and Boxes has been going well. This past week was the best attended so far. There is a cross cultural trip being talked about for June 8 – 10 for high school age kids. Missions: Jon Duncan – No meeting Other Items: The individual who originally had wanted to move the house (south of the church), but then felt it was not economically possible, declined our offer to help move it. We did receive two bids on removing articles (woodwork, etc.) from the house. Brian Jacobs will pay $301.00 to take items that he wishes. Council gave him 60 days to do this. Anyone else wishing to remove anything can talk to Brian. At this time, the demolition of the house is tabled. We are planning a spring clean-up day on Sunday, April 27th starting after second service with a lunch served. A sign up sheet will be passed during Sunday services. The Burger and Brats Feed will be Wednesday, June 11 from 5:00 – 7:00. Ruthann will organize a planning meeting soon. Jill will be in charge of advertising. Pastor Greg mentioned that Lorraine has been here five years and will now be entitled to three weeks of vacation. Council applauded Lorraine on the very fine job that she does in the office. Many times her work is above and beyond the normal. Our next meeting will be May 13th at 7:00 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Jill Mathiason, Secretary
